The municipality of Pakruojis
district is in North-East part of Šiauliai district, at the frontier of Latvia.
The largest part is taken by Žiemgalos and Mūšos-Nemunėlio lowlands. There are 2 parks
protected by the State. Flows Mūša. Its inflows are Kruoja, Daugyvenė, Šiladis. There
are 9 ponds. There are few forests and the largest are – Rozalimo, Gedžiūnų,
Pakruojo, Klusiškių.

PLACES OF INTERESTS
• Unique past of Pakruojis estate – excellent possibility to know the
heritage of this country culture.
Homestead of Pakruojis estate in 2005 was declared to be the record of Lithuania as the
biggest estate homestead of monument protection in Lithuania. This is architectural
monument having invaluable artistic, historical and landscaping value.
In written sources Pakruojis estate place is mentioned since 1531 and recent ensemble was
started to create in the end of XVIII century on Baron Wilhelm von der Ropp and his son
Theodor von der Ropp initiative and finance. Currently the homestead of the estate
includes 34 extant buildings from former 43.
The main accent of the ensemble of the estate – two-storied classicism palace built in
the first part of XIX century. The most gorgeous part of the palace is the ballroom with
elliptical colonnade, defined by excellent acoustics. Vegetable warehouse is in the
representative part of estate ensemble near the central palace. In the southern part of
the homestead there are evangelical church, icehouses, beer brewery, house of the worker,
barns, house of the foremen, pharmacy, stabling, place for carriages and coaches,
piggeries, creamery, shed and cattle-sheds.
The southern and the northern parts of the homestead are connected by the estate park
established in the middle of XIX century. The structure of the park remains the same up to
modern-days. The park is of English style of that time and the trees of 26 species from
various countries of the world are growing in it. The path guiding form the palace towards
the northern part of the estate ends by impressive metal gates separating two functional
parts of estate territory – the southern and the northern. The northern part of the
homestead is composed of unique arched bridge – dam, that was build in 1821 (the only
one building of late classicism in Lithuania made of dolomite, renewed in 2001), sawmill,
watermill with miller’s house, windmill, tavern, coach house, forge with forger’s
house and coaly combustion place. “Forge” and “Ferrous road” expositions are
equipped in the forge and coaly combustion place.
The ensemble of Pakruojis estate homestead had got into film history. There Lithuanian
artistic films “Tadas Blinda”, “Tas prakeiktas nuolankumas”, “Andrius” were
created. Currently hotel “Stadala”, cafeteria “Traktierius” function in the
buildings of renewed estate homesteads. Also there is a wonderful hall for various family
and collective events (weddings, anniversaries, christening and other), tastings of
culinary heritage, various educational programs take place, services of active leisure are
rendered and thematic excursions are organized.

• Stačiūnai mill was built in 1890. The first owner of it –
Aleksandras Laurušas.
In 2005 the mill was repaired: new hood, wings were applied, the floor of upper storey was
changed. The Exposition of Domestic and Milling Tackle were appointed in the mill with the
endeavor of Stačiūnai village community after the repair of it. The first storey of the
mill is adapted for the organization of the events. The second storey includes the
Exposition of Domestic Tackle. The third storey includes the things that were used for
baking of bread, production and storage of beer, sowing, thrashing and purification of
cereal. The fourth storey has functioning exhibition of the photos “The mills of
Pakruojis district“.

ACTIVE TOURISM SERVICES
• Canoe route from Pamūšis to Pamūšis. Swimming enthusiasts or
people resolved to swim for the first time will be really surprised with contingencies of
Mūša river: large stones of small spillways, unexpected shoals, lush grass springs and
suddenly unclosed landscape of natural and wild nature.
During swimming you will have a possibility to closely observe the dams skillfully rigged
by the beavers. Also, if succeeded, to see black storks. You could admire dolomite
exposure of Raudonpamūšis or Skalių hill existing on sharp bank of Mūša river. The
length of the exposure is 35 m, the height is 4 m. The exposure highlights the structure
of dolomite rock.
